Paediatric Trabeculectomy Part 1

Performing successful trabeculectomy in paediatric patients is one of the most challenging areas of Ophthalmology.  Each step is critical with subtle modifications compared with the adult trabeculectomy technique.  This video describes the nuances during surgery on a 5 year old with ectropion uveae.  The patient has now had more than15 years of follow-up with an IOP of 10mmHg on no medications.

Professor Peter Shah is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and Supra-Regional Glaucoma Specialist at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust. He is also a Visiting Professor to the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology). He is Honorary Professor of Glaucoma at the Centre for Health and Social Care Improvement at the University of Wolverhampton.
