Ophthalmic Anaesthesia 1
Ophthalmic anaesthesia is a subspecialty in itself. As ophthalmologists we can appreciate the service provided by our anaesthetic colleagues, by providing the optimal operating conditions to produce the best possible outocmes for our patients. We are reassured that if there are complications, potentially life-threatening in cases, that everything is done to remediate the situation. As patients it is about minimising the stress and pain of a procedure no matter how simple or complex, but knowing the surgeon is focused on the surgery, whilst the anaesthetist is providing support and comfort levels. This video addresses the more serious complications of ophthalmic anaesthesia and discusses the critical role for highly-trained ophthalmic anaesthetists.
