The Blumenthal technique is a manual small incision cataract surgery (SICS) technique devised by Professor Michael Blumenthal from Israel.  It is an elegant method utilizing hydrodissection and hydrodynamic expression of the nucleus through a self-sealing scleral tunnel.  This two part video covers in detail the theory and practical tips to perform the surgery as well as a discussion on outcomes.

He is a founding member and ex-president of the Glaucoma Society of India, where he did most of his training and early research. Dr Thomas was formerly the president of The International Society of Geographical and Epidemiological Ophthalmology (ISGEO) and advisor to several international non-governmental agencies working in eye health.
